AJ’s Note: Fred is one of my best friends. We’ve known each for a little over 6 years now all the way back since our Sophomore year in High School. If we were in ‘Nam we’d both sleep with our backs to each other so we don’ have to sleep with our faces in the mud. I asked Fred to do a guest blog for me as a fun little change of pace.

So even though I grow the manliest beard of our bunch, why am I labeled the ‘emo’ one? Is it because I talk about love and heartbreak so freely, but without the whine and cheese (and sideburns) of Dashboard Confessional’s Chris Carrabba? R&B singers speak of the same subjects but get a lot more chicks. Why can’t I be Usher instead of emo? I’m too fat to be Usher. I think we all are.

The holiday season always makes me feel a little lonely. Don’t you want a cuddle buddy in this weather? Downtown San Diego always has me turning my head at every single female we encounter. I feel like such a window shopper whos always looking, but never leaves the mall with anything. Why is it that when girls actually find us approachable, we’re never interested?”
