Last night I was at Rockstar San Diego’s corporate website applying for a job when it prompted me to answer the question, “Why do you want to work at Rockstar?” I thought to myself, “Sh*t good question.” And I stood there in front of my computer for 20 minutes trying to think of something intelligent to write. I asked myself, “Why am I here at point in time X applying for job Y at company Z?” Well now that I am in the job market, I thought it would be cool to share what kind of career and jobs I wanted to have as I grew up. Perhaps it will shed some light on how I ended up as the professional and person I am today.
- Ghost Buster (Age 5) - Save for the ghost like Casper who are friendly, who the f*ck wants ghost in their homes!? Shoot I ain’t afraid a no ghost! Besides the Ghost Busters didn’t have an Asian member yet; so I figure if they wanted to be PC, they can sign me up.
- Ninja (Age 7) - My grandpa had a cabinet full of old martial arts, Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee, and ninjas films, and everytime I would visit he’d let me borrow a new set of films. I particularly remember watching American Ninja and wanting to throw ninjas stars and wear the awesome ninja garb. What can I say? I was young and impressionable.
- Astronaut (Age 11) - This one is perhaps the most cliche of this list. I mean every boy wanted to be an astronaut right? Who doesn’t want to walk on the moon or chase weightless orange juice and M&Ms in space? Though the movie that perhaps influenced me the most to chase this profession was Apollo 13.
- Pilot (Age 13) - Two words. Top Gun. With my dad in the Navy, this was looking to be a very viable career path that not only got my parents excited but also got me excited to get a sick call sign like Maverick or Goose. Then I realized I was deathly afraid of heights.
- Programmer (Age 15) - The first time I typed some obfuscated text into a computer and made it do something I was amazed. I will always be grateful to my childhood friend Erick who showed me this book full of code in the 4th grade and said, “Hey look if we type all this stuff in the computer we can make it do stuff!” In High School while taking programming classes I found out I had a knack for it and enjoyed it.
- Politician (Age 17) - Honestly I don’t know what the hell I was thinking.
- Jedi Knight (Age 19) - A wielder of the force with a bad ass saber of light that can effortlessly slice off appendages? Hellll yeah.
- Viper pilot aboard the Battlestar Pegasus (Age 22) - Perhaps it is because I can be an astronaut and a pilot at the same time. A man can still have childish dreams; can’t he? =P
So what have I learned from this list other than that I can be really influenced by movies and my imagination is usually in the clouds or outer space? Well let’s review this list again. Considering im deathly afraid of heights, not enough miticlorians to be a Jedi, can’t do any flips to be a ninja, not enough stats in charisma and persuade to be a politician, I learned that the road to my inevitable choice for a career in life has been a practical one. A choice that is not only practical but a choice that I hope I will enjoy and have no regrets.

You should give this response as to why you want to work for them xD If I read that I would have been “I need to drag this man in here - if he doesn’t act like a psycopath…he is hired!”
